Bringing Documents from Spain to Korea

If you are submitting a document issued in Spain to Korea, it must go through the Spanish issuing agency.

Issuing Agency Varies by Document Type

Civil registry and judicial documents are apostilled by the Ministry of Justice (Ministerio de Justicia), some regional documents by the Superior Court of Justice (TSJ), consular and commercial documents by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAEC), and notarial documents by the Notarial Colleges (Colegios Notariales).

Electronic Apostille (Apostilla Electrónica)

Spain's Ministry of Justice operates an electronic apostille system developed jointly with the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) and the European Commission. Applications can be made online via the Cl@ve digital certificate, and documents can be downloaded online for one year after issuance.

Spain's issuing agencies are distributed by document type, so the exact responsible agency must be confirmed individually depending on the document (verification needed).

Frequently Asked Questions

Do documents submitted to Spain require an apostille?

Spain has been a member of the Apostille Convention since September 25, 1978, and public documents meeting the Convention's requirements can be submitted with an apostille alone, without consular authentication.

Does Spain also support electronic apostilles?

Yes. Spain's Ministry of Justice issues both paper and electronic apostilles through the Apostilla Electrónica system.

How are documents from non-member countries handled?

Documents issued in a non-member country separately require consular authentication from the Spanish embassy in that country. Since Korea is a Convention member, only an apostille is required.
