Documents Brought from France to Korea

If you are submitting a document issued in France to Korea, it must go through the apostille-issuing authority in France.

Issuing Authority Changed as of May 2025

As of May 1, 2025, authority to issue apostilles transferred from the Court of Appeal (Cour d'appel) to notaries (Notaire, local chamber of notaries). As of September 1, 2025, consular legalization (légalisation) is also handled by notaries.

Former System (for reference, no longer in effect)

In the past, the Court of Appeal (Cour d'appel) issued apostilles, but this has since been transferred to the notary system. Some exceptions, such as overseas territories, remain with the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

This change is a recent 2025 update. Do not rely on outdated information that says "apostilles are obtained from the court" — be sure to check the latest notices from France Diplomatie (French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs).
