UAE Document Authentication Guide

Submitting Korean documents to the UAE?
Check the required documents and issuing agencies, translation/notarization, and the full consular legalization process, plus official UAE agency information.

3-second summary — The UAE is not an Apostille Convention member, so an apostille alone is not accepted. Full consular legalization is required: notarization/translation → Korea MOFA consular confirmation → UAE Embassy legalization, and in some cases additional MOFAIC attestation.

HCCH official status — Not listed in the HCCH status table → not a party to the Apostille Convention. An apostille cannot replace consular legalization. HCCH Apostille Convention status table (checked 2026-10-03)

Consular Legalization Process for Submission to the UAE

Since the UAE is not an Apostille Convention member, a full consular legalization chain is required rather than a simple apostille.

① Document issuance→ ② Notarization (for private documents)→ ③ Translation (Arabic/English as needed)→ ④ Korea MOFA consular confirmation→ ⑤ UAE Embassy in Korea legalization→ ⑥ MOFAIC attestation in UAE (as needed)
The UAE is not a Convention member, so an apostille cannot be substituted. Depending on the destination, additional attestation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC) may also be required after arrival in the UAE.

Guide by Purpose for Submission to the UAE

Required documents vary by receiving agency and situation, so the following are representative documents for reference only and not a definitive list.

International Marriage

The marriage relations certificate and family relations certificate may be used, but the exact required list needs confirmation.

Employment/Migration

The criminal record report and degree certificate may be used, but the exact required list needs confirmation.

Overseas Study

The degree certificate and transcript may be used, but the exact required list needs confirmation.

Business/Corporate

The certified copy of the corporate register and business registration certificate may be used, but the exact required list needs confirmation.

We do not assert that "submission to the UAE always requires all of these specific documents." The exact required documents vary by receiving agency, so please be sure to confirm with that agency.

Documents Brought from the UAE to Korea

If you are submitting a document issued in the UAE to Korea, it must go through the corresponding consular legalization chain in reverse — UAE authority authentication, Korean Embassy in the UAE consular confirmation, and so on.

Fees

Confirm with the competent authority — The UAE Embassy in Korea sets its legalization fee and payment method, and these can change at any time, so we do not publish amounts that are not confirmed by an official notice. Check the UAE Embassy in Korea's notices before applying. (UAE MOFA domestic attestation fees: 150 AED for personal documents, 2,000 AED for commercial documents — mofa.gov.ae FAQ, checked 2026-10-02)

Notes

Exact intake procedures and required documents vary by document type and destination purpose, so please reconfirm directly with the relevant embassy or agency.

Because the UAE requires full consular legalization rather than an apostille, processing generally takes longer and costs more than apostille-only countries. Please plan accordingly.

How Vision ApoKorea Can Help

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a document submitted to the UAE require an apostille?

No. The UAE is not a member of the Apostille Convention, so an apostille alone is not sufficient. Documents require full consular legalization: notarization/translation as needed, consular confirmation by the Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and legalization by the UAE Embassy in Korea, and in some cases additional attestation by MOFAIC depending on the destination.

How much is the UAE Embassy legalization fee?

The legalization fee of the UAE Embassy in Korea is set by the Embassy, and as we could not confirm the amount in an official notice, we do not list it on this page. Before applying, check the latest amount and payment method in the UAE Embassy in Korea's notices. For reference, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) lists its domestic UAE attestation fees as 150 AED for personal documents and 2,000 AED for commercial documents (mofa.gov.ae FAQ, checked 2026-10-02). These are not the fees of the Embassy in Korea.
